CHESS REGULATIONS

1. Organization
a. The Chess Committee of the 20th Maccabiah will be responsible for the Chess competitions of the 20th Maccabiah.
b. All the Chess events will be played according to the FIDE rules and regulations, its interpretations and supplements will be binding.
c. The Chess Committee of the 20th Maccabiah will determine the venues and times of the Chess competitions and players will be notified accordingly and registered the Chess competitions.
d. The Chess committee is authorized to make changes as deem necessary.
e. The results of the games will count towards the FIDE ratings.
- Closed Tournament – International Grand Masters
a. Participation in this event is open to International Grand Masters, to International Masters, and players who have at least 2500 ELO but are not International Masters yet.
b. Ten players will be able to participate in this event, league style.
c. Match will be played by the Fischer method (match length 2 hours + 30 seconds for each move).
d. Determination of first place will be as follows:
1) Number of points scored by the player.
2) According to the Berger System (sum of all the points of those opponents whom they won against, plus the sum of half the points of those opponents they drew against).
3) The result between the players that scored the most points.
4) Blitz games, Double Round, between the players with the highest score.
- Closed Tournament
a. Participation in this event is open to International Grand Masters, to International Masters, and players who have from 2300 ELO up to 2500 ELO but are not International Masters yet.
b. Ten players will be able to participate in this event, league style.
c. Match will be played by the Fischer method (match length 2 hours + 30 seconds for each move).
d. Determination of first place will be as follows:
1) Number of points scored by the player.
2) According to the Berger System (sum of all the points of those opponents whom they won against, plus the sum of half the points of those opponents they drew against).
3) The result between the players that scored the most points.
4) Blitz games, Double Round, between the players with the highest score.
- Open Tournament
a. Participation in this event is open to all Fide rated players, and each country may send three unrated players.
b. The event will be held according to the Swiss System in nine rounds and a computer will do the pairing.
c. Match will be played by the Fischer method (match length 2 hours + 30 seconds for each move).
d. Determination of first place will be as follows:
1) Number of points scored by the player.
2) According to the Bucholtz System.
3) According to the Median System.
4) Blitz games, Double Round, between the players with the highest score.
- Junior Tournament
a. Participation in this event is open to all FIDE rated players, and each country may send five unrated players.
b. Participation in the competition is open to any athlete who is in possession of a Participant Card, issued by the Organizing Committee of the 20th Maccabiah and registered the Chess competition.
c. The event will be held according to the Swiss System in nine rounds and computer will do the pairing.
d. The rate of play is 2 hours for the finish match.
e. Determination of first place will be as follows:
1) Number of points scored by the player.
2) According to the Bucholtz System.
3) According to the Median System.
4) Blitz games, Double Round, between the players with the highest score.
- General
a. These regulations are but one part of the complete 20th Maccabiah Regulations, and must be read along with the instructions found in “Basic Regulations and Disciplinary Procedures”.
b. In the event of a discrepancy between the Regulations written here and those appearing in the “Basic Regulations”, the regulations written here will apply and be binding.
c. The Sports Department of the 20th Maccabiah has the authority to make changes in any or all the technical regulations.
